Baroque Temples of Collao
Baroque Temples of Collao is part of the Tentative list of Peru in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Baroque Temples of Collao is a group of eight churches built on the high plateaus of the Peruvian Andes to facilitate the evangelisation of the local population during the Spanish colonisation. A particular artistic and architectural style, mixing European knowledge and local traditions, influenced by the schools of architecture of Cusco and Arequipa, developed on these high plateaus: the Andean Baroque. These churches, built between the 16th and 18th centuries, are generally characterised by monumental stone constructions with a Latin cross plan, richly decorated altars and more sober interiors.
